Problem When a customer adds or updates their card and the validation is rejected, our integration receives no notification. The rejection can come from the issuing bank or from the processor's security checks. We only find out days later, when a charge fails or when the customer reaches out to us.
Between 09/28 and 10/20 we had 46 rejected validations. We couldn't warn any of those customers in time. Several of them retried many times in a row and ended up blocked by the processor's security checks.
What we're asking for
A webhook event (e.g.
payment_method.validation_failed) fired on every rejected card validation or save.An API endpoint to query failed attempts for a customer or a subscription.
Minimum event payload
Customer ID and subscription ID
Date and time of the attempt
Rejection source: issuing bank or processor security check
Rejection code and message
Card brand and last 4 digits
Attempt number, to detect repeated retries
How we'd use it
Notify the customer right away, from inside our product
Suggest a different card before they retry several times
Prevent repeated retries from triggering the processor's security checks
